In 1919 at the American Legion National Convention the Boy Scouts of America was selected as their first Youth Program. This youth Program has been a part of the American Legion programs for 106 years. The Scouting program in North Carolina is strong. The Scouting leadership in the state is outstanding and does a great job! The Department of North Carolina provides Scholarships for High Adventure Treks, Awards for Leaders, Awards for Units and Eagle Scout of the Year. These Awards vary from Certificates, Plaques and up to $1200.00 for a High Adventure Trek. An Eagle Scout placing in the National Contest can receive a $10,000.00 Scholarship for his or her education. The paperwork for these awards can be obtained in the monthly mailing or at nclegion.org.
The Boy Scout Committee meets three times a year and consists of Legionnaires from across the State. These individuals usually have Scouting experience, but not necessary. This program, I think is one of the best youth programs that an individual can be a part of. This program teaches life skills that are needed throughout his or her youth, and adult life. Scouting can be an adventure in your Youth as well as an Adult. I also think that the Scouting program helps to mold the Youth of the future and create good citizens for today’s world. The merit badges they earn teach them skills that they would never be subjected to. Scouting is a winner in today’s environment and for their future. Please join a Scouting unit today and start enjoying the benefits of knowledge, fellowship, and learning the skills for the future.
